HOW BIG IS MY HEAD?

My son does have a really big head for his age. The doctor's chart puts it in the 80th percentile! I like to think there are lots of brains in there and that's why. Anyway, it makes it really hard to fit him into hats. Desperate for something warm to put on his head, I whipped up this creation with some of the left-over fabric used for his blanket. I love how he looks in it. It makes his head look even bigger! That's adorable.

BABY BLANKET FROM MY OWN FABRIC

I finally got around to a little sewing! Here is the finished blanket I made for my little son Elijah. I'd been wanting to put this together for months now but, taking care of Eli, holidays and work have derailed my creativity. I was so excited when I found this website that allowed you to create and print your own fabric. I'd known for awhile now that it was possible but, I hadn't really thought about seriously doing it until I ran across Spoonflower.com. They made it very easy to upload and preview the layout of your design. And, the site is set up with a community format so you can look at and follow other designers patterns. There are so many very talented people out there. I have been having a lot of fun bouncing around the fabric and handmade blogs linked to this community.

I wasn't sure how my design was going to turn out but when I received it after Thanksgiving I was very happy with it. There was a little rasterizing on the edge of the black bee which I still haven't figured out why. The psd file does not show anything. I've been meaning to contact them about this to make sure it doesn't happen again but I'll tackle that later. No plans of yet to print more. I would love for them to add new fabrics to their catalog. I know they had expressed interest in that and knowing that this is a small business just starting out I'm sure they will. I would love to be able to print on flannel and maybe even diaper material like hemp!

As for the pattern, bees seem to find their way into much of my personal design, even in my business name and logo. There is a lot that is graphic to draw from with the bee and it's habitat and that is probably why I'm drawn to it. Anyway, so that's why I started with the honeycomb bee fabric for my first custom design.

I want to keep sewing more things from fabric that I've designed but, I have so many crafts I want to complete. True to my nature as a Saggitarius, I just can't do one thing at a time nor do I complete things as quickly as I'd like. Sometimes I don't ever complete them:) oh well! For now, I'll just enjoy looking at my new creation and dream about the next project!
